This is a new design 1-1/4 inch 3X Barlow. This model was made for us at OWL Services by one of the largest companies in China. Similar Barlows are being sold at much higher prices. We chose to start this auction for less. To use a Barlow you place the Barlow into the focus tube of your telescope. You then may put any of your eyepieces into the end of the Barlow. This will allow you to reach the highest useful range of powers with your telescope. This 3X Barlow triples the power of all eyepieces. You may use any of your standard 1-1/4" (31.75 mm) eyepieces with this and the power is tripled. Please remember that there is a limit to the highest useful power with any scope. On nights of good "seeing", this is somewhere between 40 and 60 power per inch of aperature. In other words, you should not use more than 200X to 300X for a 5 inch telescope. This Barlow is new in box and will fit all telescopes with a 1-1/4" focus tube including Mead, Orion, and Celeston. This Barlow is also very useful for photography where high powered views are needed. This is a great value at our great price. Contrast in very important for resolving fine planetary detail or to bring out faint deep-sky features. This Barlow has edge-blackened optics and is fully multicoated. These additional step in the manufacturing process results in better contrast with your telescope. In any view through a telescope, especially where a bright star or planet is present, their is some light scatter. With standard optics some of this light may be reflected back into the eyepiece and results in decreased contrast. With multicoated lenses and blackened lens edges, this reflection is reduced.
