Meade 10" LX200GPS-SMT Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope with Ultra High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) and Several Peterson Engineering Upgrades The following a complete description of this telescope: This scope is in excellent condition optically, mechanically, and cosmetically. It has only had one preivous owner. The paint still has a very nice gleam to it. The OTA is completely free of dents and scratches. The UHTC optics are clean and razor sharp, and the glass, mirrors, and multi-coatings are in excellent condition. The tripod is in excellent condition and it is fully adjustable. This is the newer version of the LX200GPS scopes and features heavy duty bronze drive gears and the more sensitive Sony GPS antenna. It has several upgrades from Peterson Engineering that makes it a much smoother scope. This scope is very portable, and one person of average strength can handle it without problems. The MASSIVE 10" high-contrast optics offer lots of light gathering ability and can resolve deep sky objects with ease. This scope will definitely cure your 'aperture fever'!! The scope features optional 'Ultra High Transmission Coatings' (UHTC), which will deliver 20% brighter images than stock EMC optics. This is a fully computerized telescope; so you don't have to be a professional astronomer to see all those wonderful heavenly bodies above, just tell the scope what you want to see!! To get started, simply turn on the scope,...that's it!! Because this scope features Level North Technology (LNT) and it will automatically detect the levelness of the mount, detect north, take GPS coordinates, and also automatically enter the current time and date. From there it will select and point to the 1st alignment star, all you need to do is center that star in the field of view and press enter (a second alignment star is optional). From then on it has complete Go-To and tracking ability. The Autostar II handset is easy to use and features the latest software version (4.2g), which contains a huge 145,000-object database (for both north and south hemispheres), so you will not soon run out of things to look at. The scope is smart too, because it will tell you when the object you selected is below the horizon and can't be seen. It can also track satellites and user defined objects (like new comets and other Near Earth Objects). It features Smart Drive, which permanently adjusts for the Periodic Error Correction of the mount's worm gear drive system. This is very useful when taking long exposure images of deep sky objects, because the scope can achieve periodic error correction of 5 arc seconds or less (this is the standard for professional level observatory instruments!!). The scope also has Smart Mount Technology (SMT) which will constantly improve the scope's pointing model, giving greater Go-To and tracking accuracy if the scope is ever permanently mounted in an observatory. The rugged all-metal drive base houses strong worm-geared motors and this scope slews quickly between objects at 9 different speeds (up to 8 degrees a second!!). This is a newer model scope with the heavy duty bronze gears and more sensitive Sony GPS antenna. This telescope can be controlled from a PC or lap top computer when equipped with the planetarium software with LX200 protocol and an RS232 data cable (neither included with this scope).
