When you want to zoom in on the action, towards the telephoto end of your zoom range where your lens is the slowest, you'll find that the built in flash does exactly opposite of what you want. Its range is reduced to about 10 feet, and sometimes even less! It’s even more annoying if you have a 70-300mm f4-5.6 or a similar telephoto zoom lens. What is the sense of having the magnifying capability of 300mm but your camera’s flash is only effective to about 10 feet? When you want to use your zoom’s telephoto capability that you paid for, but also require the built in flash, your pictures come out dark or, even worse, not at all!! To enhance auto focusing capability Your camera’s built-in AF-Assist Illuminator is only effective to about 10 feet beyond which you have to resort to slower manual focusing that's especially inconvenient in low light situations.
